In the England Criminal Registers 1791-1892 there is a record for an Elijah CLARE being convicted of Sheepstealing by a Servant and received a sentence of 6 calendar months in Easter Quarter Sessions held on 3rd April 1854 in Oxford.


In the 1881 census Elijah CLARE, a Cattle Drover, aged 50, was in Uxbridge, Hayes, Middx; with his wife Rebecca CLARE.


His wife Rebecca CLARE died in Uxbridge in 1887.


In the 1891 census Charles Elijah CLARE, widower, a General Labourer, aged 62, was (an Inmate) in the Uxbridge Union Workhouse, Hillingdon, Middx, born in Kingston, Oxfordhire.
